At Roadmark, our mission is to shape safe and confident drivers for life.
We go further than just helping you earn a license; our personalized lessons are designed to help you build solid habits and real-world readiness, so passing the test becomes the natural next step.
We offer both insurance reduction and non-insurance reduction programs, each with a variety of course options—so you can always find the right one for you.
Regardless of age, all new drivers are part of the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program, outlined below.
Learner
To obtain a Class 7 learner's licence you must:
• be 14 years old
• pass a vision screening
• pass a knowledge test on the rules of the road
• have parental consent if under 18 years old
• have valid identification
Learner’s conditions - you must:
• Hold a learner’s licence (Class 7) for 1+ year.
• Be accompanied by a fully licenced (non-GDL) driver who is 18 years of age or older and is seated next to you.
• Not drive from midnight to 5 a.m.
• Have no more passengers than seat belts.
• Be suspended if you accumulate eight or more demerit points.
• Have a zero alcohol/drug level when driving (or riding a motorcycle).
Probationary
To become a probationary driver you must:
• hold your Class 7 leaner’s licence for a year (this time will be extended if you receive a suspension of your driving privileges)
• be 16 years of age or older
• pass the Alberta Class 5 road test
To get insurance deduction:
• pass Roadmark's training program at 80+%
• pass online theory course at 75%
Probationary conditions - you must:
• Be a probationary driver for 2+ years.
• Have no more passengers than seat belts.
• Be suspended if you accumulate eight or more demerit points.
• Have a zero alcohol/drug level when driving.
• Not re-class to a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 license.
• Not serve as a supervising driver to a learner.
Fully Licensed
To exit the GDL program you must:
• be at least 18 years of age
• be in probationary stage for 2+ years
• be free of suspensions or traffic violations within the last 12 months of probationary stage, including zero alcohol/drug level when driving.
You can reduce your probationary stage
by up to six months, if you:
• complete an approved driver training course resulting in a condition code (U) being added to your driving record
• meet all other eligibility requirements
Upon exiting the GDL program, you will:
• qualify to re-class to a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 licence
• increase the number of demerits you are allowed
• remove the 0 alcohol & drug tolerance condition
• qualify as an accompanying driver to a learner.
